What Is a Root Canal?

The term “root canal” refers both to the inside canals of a tooth (where the blood vessels and nerves are located) and the treatment that is needed when this part of a tooth becomes infected. When a tooth has been damaged or compromised by infection all the way to its inner pulp, these areas need to be completely cleaned out to remove the entirety of the infection. The tooth is then filled with a special rubber-like material and capped with a crown to protect it.

Efficient and Effective Treatment

We see many patients who have root canals that were handled elsewhere and not treated adequately. This can happen when a dentist does not find and clean out all of the canals inside an infected tooth. We go above and beyond to find all the hidden canals inside your tooth and ensure they are fully treated. Our doctors have the skills to identify where hidden canals might be and use our 3D CT scanner to find them. They then use high magnification to ensure those hidden or split canals are completely cleaned out. With this, we can effectively handle even the most difficult endodontic problems (“endodontics” refers to treating the interior areas of teeth).
We also handle retreatment of failing root canals, including apicoectomies (the removal of a diseased portion of a tooth root) and retrofill restorations (sealants at the end of tooth roots).
